Nationnewslead reports that A surety, Gajah Lovely, has been arraigned before Justice G. O. Imadegbelo of the Edo State High Court for failing to produce a suspect, Richman Pere, who he stood for.

Lovely was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on two counts of conspiracy to pervert justice and failure to produce a suspect.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following the plea of the defendant, the EFCC counsel, Ibrahim Mohammed, asked the court for a trial date and to remand the defendant in a correctional facility.

Lovely’s counsel, Marta Imafu, moved a bail application of her client, but this was opposed by the prosecution counsel.

Justice Imadegbelo ordered the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre and adjourned till March 17 for trial.

Businessman remanded for  oil adulteration, forgery

Similarly, Justice Maureen Onyetenu of the Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a businessman, Chidi Nwanyanwu, in police custody for the adulteration of engine oil and using forged Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s logos on the product.

Nwanyanwu was arraigned alongside his companies, Two Ocean Oil Limited and Hi-Power Lubricants, on four counts bordering on dealing in adulterated engine oil, non-compliance with SON’s Conformity Assessment Programme and forging of SON’s logo, mark of quality and certification number.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to SON’s counsel, Joseph Olofindare, the defendants committed the offences on February 1, 2021, at the Trade Fair Administrative Block Complex, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

Olofindare said the offences were punishable under sections 26, 26(a) (b) of the SON Act, 2015, and section 1(18a) (ii) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, 2004.

The defendant’s counsel, Uchenna Umoneke, informed the court of a bail application before the court.

Olofindare did not oppose the application but notified the court that Nwanyanwu had been evasive and had dishonoured all of SON’s invitations for a meeting on how to find solutions to the problems allegedly caused by his products.

Following the allegation, Umoneke prayed for a short date to enable him to file a further and better affidavit for Nwanyanwu’s bail.

Justice Onyetenu adjourned till March 10, 2021, for hearing of the defendant’s bail application and ordered Nwanyanwu’s remand at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ikoyi, Lagos.
