The Taraba state government on Thursday called on the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to visit the flooded areas in the state and assist the government in fixing them.
Alhj. Aminu Alkali, the state deputy governor, made the plea while playing host with the commission’s team in Jalingo.
The deputy governor expressed that two major bridges linking the north and southern parts of Taraba Taraba were cut off by flood.
“On behalf of Governor Agbu Kefas, I wish to solicit that as you access your projects around the state, you should also visit the flooded areas, especially the two bridges linking the north and southern parts of Taraba State that have been cut off, and assist in your little way to enable the government to fix them.
“The complete collapse of one of the bridges has created another form of hardship not only for people within the area but for the entire state.
“We wish to also appeal that the commission should always consult with the state government before sighting projects.
“The idea is to ensure that all projects meet the desires of the immediate communities. Our wish is to ensure that all projects are situated where necessary.”. The deputy governor pleaded.
Earlier, Muhammad Alkali, the managing director of the North-East Development Commission, told the deputy governor that the commission was in the state for an overnight project visit.
The MD assured that the commission while ensuring the completion of her ongoing projects, would initiate projects that have a direct impact on the immediate communities.
