The Chinese government has issued a strong response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent tariff threats, declaring its readiness to confront any form of economic confrontation initiated by the United States.
In a statement posted on X.com, the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. emphasised the need for mutual respect in resolving issues such as the fentanyl crisis but warned of China’s preparedness for economic conflict.
“If the US truly wants to solve the fentanyl issue, then the right thing to do is to consult with China by treating each other as equals. If war is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end,” the embassy’s post on X read.
The remarks come in response to Trump’s renewed calls for increased tariffs on Chinese goods, a policy he pursued during his presidency.
His statements have raised concerns about a potential escalation in trade tensions between the two economic superpowers.
The Trump administration has imposed an additional 10 percent tariffs on Chinese goods on top of the 10 per cent already in place. The new tariffs kicked in on Tuesday along with those on Canada and Mexico over the same issue.
If the U.S. truly wants to solve the #fentanyl issue, then the right thing to do is to consult with China by treating each other as equals.
