Three people have been killed in an attack by suspected herders on Wednesday in Gwer East Local Government Area, Benue State.
This comes just a day after two individuals were killed in a similar attack in Gwer West.

Abraham, a local resident, described the attack, stating that the herders arrived during the night while people were asleep.

“Residents were already asleep when we heard sporadic gunshots. They opened fire indiscriminately and set many houses on fire, and the sudden attack made some people flee their homes into surrounding bushes and nearby villages,” Abraham explained.
The violence resulted in three deaths, and several others were injured.
When reached on Thursday, Timothy Adi, the Chairman of Gwer East, confirmed the casualties but assured that the situation has since calmed. “I’m in a meeting. The casualty figure is three; the situation now is relatively calm,” Adi said.
The Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, Catherine Anene, also confirmed the incident with a brief text: “Incident confirmed.”
