Hundreds of travellers thronged the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke, Ebonyi State, as United Nigeria Airlines commenced commercial flight operations from Lagos.
The airport was abuzz with activity, with numerous airport taxis strategically positioned to transport passengers to their various destinations.
Passengers who spoke with Tribune Online at the airport praised the flight experience, describing both takeoff and landing as smooth.
Richard Idike, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Ebonyi State, lauded the quality of the airport’s infrastructure, particularly the runway, which he described as the best in the country.
“The commercial flight operations have just begun, and we’re thrilled to have experienced a hitch-free service. I encourage Nigerians, especially those in the Southern region, to take advantage of this airport’s offerings,” Idike stated.
He further commended the airport’s facilities, noting that relevant regulatory agencies had already certified the runway as satisfactory.
Many passengers were seen collecting their luggage, while others queued up to board United Nigeria Airlines’ return flight to Lagos.
The Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, assured travellers that commercial operations at the airport would continue without disruption. She urged passengers to book their tickets through the Ministry of Aviation and to arrive early to avoid missing their scheduled flights.
