The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday reported significant progress in the ongoing fight against insurgency nationwide.
Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in collaboration with other security agencies, have eliminated 8,034 terrorists from January 2024 to date.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this during a briefing in Abuja, highlighting the achievements recorded in various theaters of operation across the country.
He noted that troops have adopted an aggressive approach, leading to numerous arrests, rescues, and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
Buba revealed that since the beginning of the year, troops have been active in five theaters of operation—North East, North West, North Central, South South, and South East—addressing multiple security threats.

He emphasized that their efforts have denied terrorists the capacity to harm citizens, while also curbing crude oil theft, boosting daily crude oil production to over 1.5 million barrels, and recovering significant quantities of stolen and illegally refined petroleum products.
In November 2024, operations intensified across the regions, yielding successes in combating terrorism, rescuing hostages, and arresting suspects.
These efforts are complemented by airstrikes targeting terrorist enclaves and ground forces exerting pressure to dismantle hideouts.
The DHQ assured Nigerians of sustained operations to secure the country and create a peaceful environment for the forthcoming festive season.
The military reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure a crime-free and peaceful Yuletide for all citizens.
