The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Ondo State has received a donation of $500,000 from General T. Y. Danjuma (retd.) towards the development of infrastructure for the Olu Akinkugbe faculty of pharmacy in the institution.
The support is targeted at ensuring the commencement of undergraduate studies in Pharmacy in the institution.
According to a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Isaac Oluyi, the receipt of the donation was acknowledged at the board meeting of the Olu Akinkugbe Pharmacy Education Trust (OAPET) that took place on Thursday.
The Akinkugbe Education Trust is partnering with the State Government and the university in the development of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The Chairman of education trust, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi expressed the gratitude of the board regarding the donation.
Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, who is also a member of the board, noted that the donation will significantly move the institution towards its target of completing and commissioning the Olu Akinkugbe Faculty of Pharmacy building this year.
He reiterated the commitment of the university management to the plan to commence the Doctor of Pharmacy programme in the new academic session, starting in October 2024.
