A magnitude 3.7 earthquake jolted San Francisco early Friday, shaking residents awake and briefly disrupting transit services across the city.
The tremor struck just after 7 a.m. local time, with its epicentre located approximately three miles northwest of the San Francisco Zoo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake, which occurred at a depth of five miles, was felt across the Bay Area, reaching as far south as San Jose, the USGS confirmed.

While quakes of this magnitude are relatively common in Northern California, the tremor prompted precautionary measures.
San Francisco’s Muni transit system temporarily halted subway services to inspect tunnels for potential damage. Services were expected to resume shortly after checks were completed.
According to Fox Weather, no damage or injuries were reported, but the morning jolt served as a reminder of the region’s seismic activity.
