Lagos State Ministry of Water and Environmental Services has punished a woman with a community service sentence because she was caught dumping refuse indiscriminately.
The Environmental Ministry emphasised that dumping of refuse remains a punishable crime under the administration of Tokunbo Wahab.

The ministry issued strong warnings noting that the punishment for being caught for indiscriminate refuse dumping will be to sweep long kilometres of roads in Lagos.
“With Commissioner @tokunbo_wahab the new Sheriff in town, just drop refuse anyhow on the streets of Lagos and risk sweeping several kilometres of Lagos roads.
“Let’s be guided….this is real”
In an accompanying video under the post on X account of the Environment Ministry, a woman, who identified as Agnes Owolabi said she was caught and slammed a fine which she could not afford.
In turn, Agness revealed she opted for the option of community service, to sweep long kilometres of road in Lagos.
Agnes remorsefully enjoined other road users in Lagos to avoid indiscriminate refuse dumping as she would not be committing such crimes anymore.
Agnes’ Confession reads: “I ate inside the vehicle when I was taking my daughter to school
“When we alighted at Jakande gate, I saw a refuse dump and dropped my pack of food there
“That was where I was picked.
“I pleaded guilty because I know I was wrong.
“I could not afford the fine, so I was charged to community service
“My advice to Lagosians is that they should quit dumping refuse in illegal places. For me, it will never happen again.”
