The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) Zamfara state command has organized an interaction session with the state ministry of justice aimed to guide the corps on law enforcement in the state, saying NSCDC are law enforcement agents not prosecutors in the state.
Speaking while declaring the session open on Monday evening, the Zamfara state Commandant of NSCDC Sani Mustafa said as a law enforcement agent, there was a need for the corps to understand the administration of criminal law, where, when and how to apply it.
“We are law enforcement agents, not prosecutors, we need to understand which of the law will be appropriate to apply to law violators.”
Commandant Sani Mustafa urged the the participants to listen, adhere and use what they would learn, that would guide them in the enforcement of law in the state.
“I urged the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) and Ministry of Justice to guide our men on the procedure of enforcement of law.”
The session was the third of its kind in terms of training and retraining of NSCDC staff since the redeployment of the present Commandant Sani Mustafa in the state.
At the session, Director Public Prosecution Zamfara State Ministry of Justice Barrister Abdul Ahmed highlighted laws and some of which were replaced with new laws of the land, “There is substantive law and procedure law,” he said.
He disclosed that there are some cases and offences which plea bargains were used to settle both sides.
“There are some offences that one can not enter into a plea bargain, such capital offence like armed robbery, kidnapping, homicide.”
