Stakeholders of Ilemona town in the Oyun local government area of Kwara state have said that the community will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to discourage the issue of land grabbing in every part of the local government.
The people, in a statement signed by Comrade Abdulrauf Abdullahi Opeyemi, also expressed commitment to uphold peace and harmony with the neighbouring Offa community, and Offa local government, among other areas.
The statement, which described the traditional ruler of the area, Oba Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, as an icon of peace, said that the monarch is dedicated to service to humanity.
The statement, which distanced the traditional ruler from recent allegations of land grabbing as alleged by some individuals in Offa town, said that the allegations are baseless and capable of damaging peaceful coexistence in the community.
The people said that the traditional ruler would never try to take what did not belong to him, adding that the monarch would never back any group or individual to cause unrest in his name.
They also encouraged those making the allegations to, instead, engage in constructive dialogue, listen to different perspectives, and work together with others to build a more harmonious and prosperous community and refrain from making such unfounded allegations in the future.
“Elemona of Ilemona is a law-abiding king. We reject baseless allegations against the God-fearing monarch. I am confident that Elemona will continue to lead the Ilemona community with God-given wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to the well-being of our people.
“If our ELEMONA were to use his influence, it would always be to bring people together, build bridges to promote unity and understanding, as well as address the legitimate concerns of our community. Not to create unrest or divisions in the co-existence of people of Offa and Ilemona communities.
“The Ilemona community has been a beacon of tradition, culture, peace and natural beauty. Our ancestors have toiled on this land, cultivating its richness and passing down their knowledge and customs to us. The land is not just a physical space but a sacred trust that holds the memories, stories, and legends of our people. It is our duty to safeguard this heritage for future generations, and we must not let it fall into the hands of people who would seek to exploit and desecrate it.
“Our Elemona has always been committed to maintaining peace and stability in our community. His humanitarian services is known to his people and beyond. He has worked tirelessly to promote understanding, tolerance, and cooperation among all members of our community and society. His leadership has been characterized by his GOD-given wisdom, compassion, and a deep commitment to the well-being of our people and humanity at large.”
