On Saturday, reports emerged that a Twitter user, Nnamdi Chude, had been arrested by the police in Anambra State and taken to Abuja.

The online community claimed that Chude’s arrest was linked to a tweet he posted regarding electoral violence during the state’s house of assembly elections on the same day.

According to the tweet, thugs purportedly loyal to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) were allegedly disrupting the voting process in Awada, Anambra state, to prevent the Labour Party (LP) from having an edge in the election.

However, in response to the allegations, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s chief press secretary, Christian Aburime, issued a statement on Sunday, indicating that the Anambra state government had no involvement in Chude’s arrest.

Aburime stated that the Anambra state police command had confirmed to the governor that Chude was arrested by the cybercrime unit of Interpol in Anambra and taken to Abuja, but the state government had no information about any specific allegations or basis for the arrest.
