Christmas is a few days away, and children are already in the mood, which has been set by their school’s Christmas party and vacation. Aunty ‘Yemi spoke with some children on the Yuletide season. Their responses:
Ewaoluwa Olalekan, 9 yrs old
My way of showing love at yuletide is giving out clothes, shoes and money to the poor. My favourite Christmas Carol is ‘Hark the herald angels sing, glory to the newborn King, peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled…’. I love this song because it proclaims the birth of Jesus Christ. We can still make Christmas joyful and less expensive by wearing our old clothes if we cannot afford new ones. We also eat whatever our parents prepare for us with a grateful heart and share with those who do not have.
Zaneta Osemwengie, Pry 5
When we share, we can make this year’s Christmas a special one at a little cost by sharing our clothes and food with the needy. ‘Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way…’ is my favourite Christmas song.
Oluwapemisire Adesina, 13 yrs old
Due to the nation’s bad economy, I will present my friends with handmade gifts and also engage in indoor games in order to reduce cost during this year’s Christmas celebration. Everyone should also think in this direction so as to avoid running into debt. ‘Everybody loves Christmas’ is my favourite Carol because it features many celebrities and shows unity, love and happiness.
Phoebe Oloyede, Nur 2
My favourite Christmas song is ‘We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’. When I celebrate Christmas with my grandma, she will give me lots of food and money. I will have more than enough to share with others because Christmas is all about showing and sharing love.
Morireoluwa Adesina, 11 yrs old
During this Yuletide, my plan is to create and offer my loved ones customized gifts. “12 days of Christmas,” is my favourite Christmas song because it creates a lovely melody.
Zion Osemwengie, JSS 1
I plan to show kindness and love to those around me at Christmas by giving them biscuits and popcorn. My favourite Christmas song is ‘We wish you a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year’. There are many ways we can help put smile on people’s faces during this period at little cost.
Lydia Togunse, Pry 5
The best way to celebrate Christmas without spending too much is by preparing our food by ourselves instead of going to eateries. My plan for this Christmas is to give alms to beggars and share some of my lovely clothes with the needy. My favorite song is ‘To me, to you, happy Christmas Day. Christmas Day is glorious, many people happy people; let’s dance. Welcome, welcome, Jesus my Saviour’.
