The 2023 New Year came with hopes and aspirations for most people. They made resolutions and promises to better their lives, families, relationships, marriages, work, health, etc. TEMILOLUWA AKINOLA and AYO AKANO sought the thoughts of some Nigerians on how they actualised their 2023 New Year resolutions. Their views:

The New Year ushers in opportunities for change. This year, 2023, I made some resolutions to set a different ambition for myself and improve my mental health, fitness, and finances. I also resolved to cut down on my diet, lose weight, make out time for my loved ones, acquire new skills, and make God the centre of it all. Was I able to actualise all of these? It was not an easy task, but I actualised them.

I did not have New Year resolutions. I prayed to God for directions throughout the year. I depended on His words daily and prayed to find Him in whatsoever situation I found myself in throughout the year. I could attest that God guided me throughout 2023. He went beyond my expectations in my personal life and family. I trust God for greater things in the years ahead.

On entering 2023, there were things I decided to work on and give more time — my spiritual life and growth. It was part of my resolution to grow closer to God and have a healthy relationship with Him, which I accomplished. Compared to 2022, my spiritual growth has boosted. Also, I resolved to focus on my health, academics, and career, and I accomplished them. I am an introvert. So, I decided to boost my social skills in 2023. I was able to connect with different people from different aspects of life, which greatly improved my social skills.

My resolutions for 2023 were to get closer to God, live life, get a good-paying job, forgive and forget easily, and be a better version of myself. However, life happened and I could not actualise all of them due to some reasons. But, thank God for life. We would enter next year with the hope of a better life.

2023 is an unforgettable year. Hopes and aspirations were almost dashed, but God sailed me through. Some of the things I aspired for were realised, while some are yet to come to reality. Above all, God has been good to me and my family. I am still believing in God that He can do the rest before the year runs out.

My 2023 New Year resolutions were not much. I wanted a closer and deeper relationship with God — and, with the aid of my school’s Christian fellowships, friends, and God’s grace, I was able to actualise it. I resolved to change some bad habits and make more friends. God helped me and I was blessed with the friends I had this year. I also resolved not to be broke — I saved when I could and had savings at the end of the year.

This year, I made many resolutions. Unfortunately, I was unable to accomplish all of them. Some of my resolutions were to make my parents proud and to join the military. I have gone through a lot of things. Though I did make my parents proud, this year has not been easy for me. I tried my best to make people happy and to make my parents proud in ways I could.

I made many resolutions in 2023 and achieved the major ones. The first one was my academics. The other was to build my communication skills. It was not an easy year − relating with people is not as easy as it seems. To an extent, I was able to build my communication skills, confidence, and acceptance towards others. I was also able to build my relationship with God this year. And my relationship with Him was what helped my resolutions thus far because I could not see myself doing it on my own. I have many things laid out for 2024, and I am not relenting until I achieve them.
