An aspirant for the Oriade State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Fanimokun Samuel Ibikunle, has called for strengthened collaboration among stakeholders to mitigate the global impact of cancer. He emphasized that increased campaigns on prevention, early detection, and treatment can significantly reduce preventable deaths caused by the disease.
Fanimokun made this appeal in a statement commemorating this year’s World Cancer Day, themed “Close the Care Gap.” He described the theme as timely and relevant, stressing the need for governments at all levels to foster partnerships that promote awareness and education about cancer. According to him, early detection and treatment, coupled with the cessation of stigmatization, are crucial to saving lives.
He further highlighted the need for sustained advocacy and investment in healthcare infrastructure to make cancer care more accessible to underserved communities. Fanimokun noted that cancer remains a major health concern, but with collective efforts, its devastating effects can be significantly reduced.
World Cancer Day, organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and observed annually on February 4, provides an opportunity to rally global support for the fight against preventable suffering caused by cancer. The event also seeks to bridge the gap in care and improve access to life-saving treatments.
Fanimokun urged individuals and organizations to participate actively in awareness campaigns and health initiatives that promote cancer prevention and management. He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for improved healthcare services and policies if elected to the Osun State House of Assembly.
