Ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations in Kwara State, the State Police Command has prohibited the use of fireworks and explosives as part of its security guidelines for the festive season.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command announced that the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has also ordered the deployment of officers and personnel to strategic locations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, psc(+), Kwara State Command, extends warm greetings to all residents as we approach the festive season of Christmas and New Year. While anticipating a season filled with joy and celebrations, the safety and security of everyone in the State of Harmony remain paramount.

To this end, the following measures and guidelines are hereby reiterated:

The statement emphasised that the use, sale, or distribution of fireworks, bangers, and other explosive devices are prohibited. These items pose significant security and safety risks, including the potential to create panic and serve as a cover for criminal activities.

The command also warned that violators of this prohibition would face the full wrath of the law.

The restriction on the movement of commercial motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. remains in full effect. This measure is aimed at curbing criminal activities and ensuring public safety

  1. Avoid traveling late at night or alone in secluded areas.
  2. Remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest security agency.
  3. Secure your homes and vehicles properly, especially when attending social gatherings.
  4. Keep emergency contact numbers handy and share them with your family members.
