Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has been conferred with the fellowship of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) in recognition of his exemplary leadership in navigating the challenges of post-conflict reconstruction in the state.
The investiture, which took place on Monday at the Government House in Maiduguri, was conducted by SPSP President Nathaniel Msen Awuapila.
According to him, over 200,000 repentant insurgents and their families have surrendered to the authorities, underscoring the effectiveness of the government’s non-kinetic strategies.
The SPSP announced plans to conduct a comprehensive study on the successful strategies employed by Governor Zulum in rebuilding Borno.
“Governor Zulum’s leadership serves as a model for post-conflict recovery in the Sahel region,” stated SPSP President Awuapila. The study, which aims to identify best practices that can be replicated in other regions facing similar challenges, will analyse the key factors contributing to Borno’s progress.
He emphasised the crucial role of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable peace and development in the region, highlighting the positive impact of the government’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges.
The ceremony was attended by key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Bukar Tijani, and the Head of Service, Barrister Mallam Fannami.
Professor Isaac Oluwale Albert, representing the SPSP Board of Trustees, commended Governor Zulum for his visionary leadership and the transformative impact of his projects across the state.
