The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has revealed that 1.2% of Nigeria’s population is living with HIV/AIDS.

This statistic was disclosed by the Director General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, during the launch of nationwide sensitization campaigns in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The event focused on key themes such as World HIV Day, security awareness, discouraging the “get-rich-quick” syndrome, World Human Rights Day, and the Tax Reform Bill.

Issa-Onilu, represented by Dr. Ayoola Olufemi, Director of Health and Social Care, expressed concern over the virus’s continued spread and called for intensified public awareness to curb the epidemic.

He lauded the Tinubu-led administration’s efforts in HIV prevention and highlighted the NOA’s role in providing free counseling services and fostering partnerships with local and international organizations to reduce stigma and discrimination against those living with the disease.

The NOA urged Nigerians to utilize available services, adopt responsible health practices, and support individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, emphasizing that the fight against the virus requires collective action.

In his remarks on tax reforms, Issa-Onilu underscored the relevance of fair taxation for socio-economic growth, noting that the Tinubu administration is working to address concerns such as multiple taxation and its impact on low-income earners.

He argued that the reforms are aimed at easing citizens’ financial burdens while ensuring transparency and equity in tax contributions.

He stressed that the reforms are designed to promote national development, improve public infrastructure, and create a tax system that is less burdensome while fostering accountability in government spending.

The NOA reaffirmed its commitment to creating awareness and driving collaboration for societal progress.
