The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully destroyed over 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs seized across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states.
The destruction, held on Saturday at Ipara along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State, is now recognized as the largest single seizure incineration in the agency’s history.

Among the drugs incinerated were 123 kilograms of cocaine, 46.8 kilograms of heroin, 1.4 million kilograms of cannabis, 148,000 kilograms of codeine syrup, 3,244 kilograms of tramadol, 1,544 kilograms of skuchies, and 111 kilograms of methamphetamine, along with other substances.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesperson, highlighted that this marks a significant milestone in the agency’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.
Ibrahim Abdul, NDLEA’s Director of Assets and Financial Investigation, emphasized the transparency and accountability displayed through the exercise, stressing that the event was not just symbolic but grounded in forensic evidence.
Abdul also reminded those involved in the illicit drug trade that the government’s stance has firmly shifted.
He said, “To those still involved in the illicit drug trade, we will persist in reminding them that times have changed.”
Abdul also noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to providing the necessary leadership to tackle this growing menace. He pointed out that over the past four years, 10,572 offenders have been convicted and are now serving sentences, underscoring the agency’s commitment to the war against illicit drugs and the pursuit of justice for the nation.
