Veteran Nollywood actor and esteemed member of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Otunba Ayobami Mudashir Olabiyi, popularly known as “Bobo B,” passed away on Tuesday, October 16th, 2024, following a brief illness.

Here are ten(10) things to know about the late Veteran Nollywood actor Ayobami Olabiyi.

Early Life:

Ayobami Olabiyi was born in Ibadan, where he began his education at CAC Primary School, Irifin, and attended several other educational institutions including Akufo High School and the University of Ibadan.

Teaching Career:

He started teaching in 1977 and worked as a teacher for 16 years before retiring in 1993 to focus on acting.

Chieftaincy Title:

Due to his contributions to education, he was honored with the chieftaincy title of Otunba in Iware, Oyo State.

Transition to Acting:

After retiring from teaching, Olabiyi transitioned into acting, facing initial challenges but eventually succeeding.

First Movie:

His first movie, “Ewolewo,” was released in 1994 and marked the beginning of his film career.

Breakout Role:

He gained widespread recognition in 1996 with his role in the film “Olaniyanu,” which launched him into the limelight.

TAMPAN Leadership:

He served as the National Secretary of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and contributed to the growth of the association and the film industry.

Governor of ANTP/TAMPAN:

Olabiyi was the Oyo State Governor of ANTP (later TAMPAN) from 2010 to 2014 and remained involved in the organization’s governance until 2020.

Film Contributions:

He acted in over 16 films and numerous TV productions, becoming known for his versatility in portraying diverse roles in Yoruba cinema.

Legacy and Death:

Olabiyi passed away after a period of illness at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. His legacy as a respected figure in Yoruba Nollywood lives on through his mentorship and contributions to the industry.
