Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has said that it has received a report of a boat mishap that occurred at about 2:00 pm on Monday, 15th January 2024 in Borgu Local Government Area of the State.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Director General of the Agency, Mr Baba Ara, and made available to the newsmen on Monday in Minna, the State capital.
According to him, “The ill-fated boat took off from Dugga Mashaya in Dugga Ward heading towards Wara Market in Kebbi with passengers estimated to be around 100 persons on board the boat including goods, such as grains and sugarcane.
“As of the time of writing this interim report, no clear information about deaths and survivors in the boat’s accident”.
Meanwhile, the statement noted that search and rescue operations were ongoing by the local divers, NNEMA desk officers, and some of the local government officials.
It however assured that updates would be forwarded to the newsmen in the state as they were being received.
