13 travellers have died, while 40 others sustained serious injuries in a ghastly motor accident in the Kaduna metropolis.
The accident occurred at MRS Filling Station on Ahmadu Bello Way within Kaduna metropolis resulting in the death of 13 travellers, while 40 others sustained injuries.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 11 pm on Friday when a trailer with registration number STK 445 XA was travelling from Kano State, conveying onions and dozens of people people who were seated on top of the goods.
The Kaduna State Sector Commander, Kabir Y. Nadabo, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday, attributed the cause of the crash to overspeeding and overloading.
The sector commander who was part of the team that conducted the rescue and prompt clearance of the obstruction caused by the accident disclosed that, “investigation had revealed that 60 people were involved in the crash, 40 got injured, and 13 were deceased.”
He explained further that the injured were conveyed to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
He said the driver of the vehicle dumped the trailer and ran away, adding that efforts were ongoing to find the owners of the vehicle.
He promised that the corps would continue to work hard and liaise with transport stakeholders and the media in preaching for vehicle owners to adopt safety methods whenever they’re travelling.
