Nationnewslead reports that The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has resumed indefinite strike action which was earlier suspended on 10th April, 2021.
This decision was taken at the end of The National Executive Council meeting held at Federal Medical Center, UMUHIA on 26th- 31st July, 2021.
Speaking with our correspondent, The President of the Association of Resident Doctors, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, ARD-UUTH, UYO – DR. EKEMINI UDO, said the decision came after a critical appraisal of the performance of both Federal and State Government on all the issues affecting the welfare of their members.
The strike action though highly avoidable is due to failure of the FG to implement the memorandum of Actions ( MOA) signed at the instance of the Minister of Labour and NARD.
Some of our demands are:
Payment of outstanding salary arrears of our members on GIFMIS PLATFORM ranging from three to seven months.
Abolishing the Recent circular from the Head of service of the federation, removing house officers from the scheme of service, which has already been implemented by the Lagos State Government.
Non- payment of National minimum wage consequential adjustment to our members in some state Teaching Hospitals.
Hazard Allowance for Health workers still remain a paltry sum of five thousand naira even in the wake of COVID-19.
Poor budgetary allocation to health care sector, all these leading to massive brain drain of our members to greener pasture..
The ARD-UUTH is in full compliance with the national directives and we plead with the FG to quickly resolve all our demands so we can resume work and attend to our patients.
