Twenty-three remaining captives of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack of March 28, 2022 have regained their freedom.

Prof. Usman Yusuf, the Secretary of the Chief of Defence Staff Action Committee (CDSAC), announced the release in a statement on Wednesday.

Yusuf disclosed that the hostages were released at about 4 pm on Wednesday.

He said the “seven-man Presidential Committee assembled by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General L.E.O. Irabor secured the release and took custody of all the 23 remaining passengers held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists following the attack on the Abuja to Kaduna train on 28-3-2022”.

“The terrorists struck the Kaduna-bound train in March 2022, killing about 10 passengers and kidnapping scores of others.

“The nation owes a debt of gratitude to the Nigerian Military under the leadership of the CDS who conceived and guided the operation from start to finish. All sister security agencies and the Federal Ministry of Transportation contributed immensely to this
operation,” the statement said.

Yusuf however didn’t state whether the release of the passengers was secured through an operation. He also didn’t state if any of the criminals was arrested or whether ransom was paid to secure their release.
