An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced a 50-year-old welder, Daniyan Ojo, to death by hanging for causing the death of his wife.
Ojo committed the offence on September 14, 2019, at lrese Road in Shagari Village, Akure.
He set their matrimonial home ablaze while his wife was inside sleeping after accusing her of not telling him about a car and three plots of land she acquired.
Ojo was charged with arson, murder and disabling to commit felony.
Among the witnesses that testified in the case were a brother of the deceased, Adeniyi Samuel.
He said his late sister explained to him that she bought the property in her name because she was afraid of the husband disposing them without her knowledge.
But Ojo denied setting his wide ablaze or locking her inside the room
In his judgement, Justice A. O Adebusoye, said that the prosecution proved the case against Ojo beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him accordingly.
He ruled that judging from the evidences and testimonies before it, the accused person was guilty as charged and sentenced him to death by hanging. Continue Reading
