A new General Officer Commander (GOC) 8 Division, Sokoto, Brig. General Ibikunle Ajose, has assumed duty in the Division.
The newly appointed acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division who is also the Commander of Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI, assumed command on Friday, 26 July 2024 during the Handing and Taking over ceremony event held at the Division’s Headquarters, Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto.
Brigadier General Ajose took over from his predecessor, Major General Godwin Mutkut who was posted to Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Director, Military Technology.
While delivering his farewell address at 26 Battalion Parade Ground, Giginya Barracks, Major General Mutkut eulogised the officers and soldiers of the Division for their unalloyed cooperation and support during his tenure, charging them to remain committed and disciplined.
The former GOC said the Division’s Area of Responsibilities (AOR) are not strange to his successor as one-time Brigade Commander. He therefore expressed confidence in his capability to take the Division to a greater height.
Earlier in his remarks, the new GOC and Commander JTF NW OPHD, Brigadier General Ajose commended his predecessor for his successful track record, while seeking his continuous guidance.
He expressed his willingness to work with all officers and soldiers towards lasting peace and stability within the Division’s AOR.
Brigadier General Ajose further wished his predecessor a successful tour of duty in his new office.
A statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, of Army Public Relations for the Division and made available to newsmen, said until his appointment as the acting GOC and Commander of JTF NW OPHD, Ajose was the Director of Administration at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
Highlights of the event were the signing of the Handing and Taking over notes, Handing over of the Command Flag and the Quarter guard parade.
