A total of 80 schools across Oyo State are to view a month-long exhibition of the works, life, and times of Professor Wole Soyinka who clocks 90 years on July 13.
The exhibition at the premises of the Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria (IACD), Jericho, Ibadan would run from July 2 to July 31.
According to President, IACD, Dr Kolade Mosuro, the exhibition with secondary schools as focus aims at enabling students draw inspiration from Soyinka’s scholarly excellence, the legacy of creativity, scholarship, achievement, and service to humanity.
By displaying Soyinka’s literary works, Mosuro said the exhibition aimed to stimulate in students the culture of reading and writing as exemplified by the Nobel laureate.
The exhibition will trace Soyinka’s life from birth till date, through a display of visuals, memorabilia with sound woven thematically to tell his rich and remarkable story.
Apart from students, Mosuro said members of the general public will by viewing the exhibition have a fresher insight into Soyinka’s unique and impactful life as well as his line of rigour and thoughts.
Mosuro pointed out that several other events were being staged in other locations across the country, in honour of Wole Soyinka, to include lectures, symposia, stage performances.
