Some commercial banks operating in Owerri the capital of Imo State have started the issuance and acceptance of old N500, and N1000 notes.
This complies with the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN directives to all commercial banks across the country.
For some customers who visited banks on Tuesday, it was a healthy development as they were attended to as were able to leave the banks satisfied with the old notes.
During a visit to some of the banks in Owerri such as Fidelity bank, there was a crowd at the bank but customers were paid old notes.
At Sterling bank, it was another joy as customers were given the exact amount they applied for.
A lady who operates a business centre in Owerri, Chiamaka told our Correspondent that she visited Sterling bank and was paid the old notes and even the amount she demanded.
She said while she was there the bank staff were busy attending to and paying their customers with old notes.
Chiamaka also said that she even bought certain items with the money without any issues.
While in some banks in the city such as Zeaneth, UBA, FCMB, and First bank, there was the usual crowd in the bank which gradually started dispassion and time continued to wind down in the day.
