According to the Ondo State Police Command, the two children of a couple who were allegedly set ablaze alongside their grandmother are still alive. The incident reportedly occurred at Aponmu community in the Akure South Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, with the 75-year-old grandmother said to have committed the act around 2 am while the victims were asleep.
The suspect, identified only as Iforiti, allegedly set her son, Victor, his wife Rachael, and the couple’s two children on fire, with reports indicating that all the victims lost their lives at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo where they were rushed to for treatment.
When interrogated, the grandmother reportedly stated that she committed the act because the victims starved her. However, Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, has confirmed that while the couple lost their lives, their children survived, adding that the 75-year-old suspect was also injured in the inferno.
Speaking on the incident, Odunlami said, “The first thing is to treat her (suspect) because she was affected by the inferno too. The two kids are safe and responding to treatment.”
