An end may have finally come to the age-long Cold War between the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, and the Police Service Commission, PSC, as the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba on Monday paid a historic courtesy visit to the new Chairman of the Commission, Dr Solomon Arase in Abuja.

The IGP who was accompanied by the Management Team of the Force on arrival at the Commission “Temporary Headquarters immediately went into a closed-door meeting with the Chairman of the Commission and members.

Both parties met and discussed measures to improve the mutual relationship between the NPF and the PSC, as well as identify new pathways for a stronger partnership.

Speaking on the motive behind the visit, the elated IGP declared that his visit would improve the relationship between the Police and PSC as well as enhance the security situation of the country

According to him, “I am at the Police Service Commission to congratulate the assumption to office of the new Chairman, IGP Solomon Arase (retd.).

“When there is proper leadership, guidance, sense of direction, discipline, promotion, appointment, people will be motivated to do the right thing.

“We will cooperate with you and make your duty easy. We want to urge you to look into other areas than promotion and discipline of the personnel people are talking about that will improve service delivery by the Force

Responding, Dr Arase stated that the visit of the IGP and his Team was a dawn of a new robust relationship between the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force, saying “there is going to be a paradigm shift between the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, “I commented you for coming, we are going to make constant to enable us to eliminate the Communication gap which a bring subscription, if there is a communication gap between two parties, it will give room for suspicions which not augur well

“I have met with other members of the Commission and others, discipline and the welfare of the personnel of the NPF will be our priority infractions will be severally sanctioned, when you see the list of promotions you will not find the names of officers having pending cases of infractions.

“We are going to liaise with Development partners for the training and retraining of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force provision of needed equipment for proper policing of the country.

” During my tenure, we are going to organize a series of retreats outside the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja to rob minds together on how to better the Nigeria Police Force, this is the dawn of a new robust relationship between the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force and we shall all be happy in it.”

Dr Arase who was sworn in on Wednesday by President Mohammad Buhari assumed duty on Thursday with a promise to end closely with the Commission in the interest of all as spelt out by the constitution.
