Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has restated commitment to ensuring that Muslims in the state get adequate and fair representation in his cabinet as he plans to constitute one very soon.

The governor, who made this remark on Sunday while receiving a delegation from National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) led by the state coordinator, Mudairu Yusuf, at his hometown, Ikogosi-Ekiti, appreciated Muslim youths for coming to celebrate the Easter festivities with him.

The governor said the cordial relationship existing between Muslims and Christians in the state remained a source of joy for him, adding that he would ensure that true Muslims were appointed into his cabinet to represent the interest of the ummah.

While appreciating the Muslim community for their support during and after the election that ushered him into office, the governor assured the Muslims that he would not disappoint them or take the confidence reposed in him for granted.

He said: “I don’t know how to express my appreciation to you. As I walked in, one thing that crossed my mind is that we are celebrating Easter and these are my Muslim brothers coming to celebrate with me. I thank God for your lives and also thank you for your support.

“I keep remembering our first meeting. It was stormy but at the end of the day, when we resolved, you gave me your word that you would go out and work for my candidacy. The kind of mobilisation I got from the Muslim community towards my election was massive and I made certain promises to you that we were going to run this government together and I am reconfirming that promise to you today.

“I will continue to identify with you and all the promises I made to you, by His grace, I will fulfill them.”

Earlier, the NACOMYO state coordinator, Yusuf, said the purpose of the visit was to felicitate the governor on Easter and to congratulate him on the Supreme Court verdict which affirmed his election.

He described the victory as divine and a reflection of the wishes of the people of the state.
