Some Nigerians have taken to social media to react to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broadcast address to the nation on current economic challenges.
The broadcast, which was aired live on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Radio Nigeria, has continued to stir reactions on social media.
In the broadcast, the president urged Nigerians to look beyond the present tough state of the country and focus on the larger picture, adding that his administration won’t let Nigerians down.
He also claimed that the federal government has saved 1 trillion from the removal of the petrol subsidy since it was announced two months ago.
Some Nigerians have, however, taken to social media to query the president about the whereabouts of the money and condemned the entire 18-minute broadcast, describing it as baseless rhetoric.
A Twitter user @tayoomotosho wrote, “Where is the money saved from fuel subsidy? How can a business borrow @ 9% and pay back in 36 months? And this is called a long-term loan? What happened to the moratorium? Expenses of businesses in Nigeria today will gulp 60% so when will businesses recoup?”
Another user @Omofoma tweeted, “With all due respect, where’s the money right now? Because that was how we were hearing EFCC recovered looted funds, till now there’s no whereabouts of those monies. Nigeria, which way, how long shall we continue like this?”
@Nweto, commented, “I just wasted my time listening to Mr. Bola pleading to everyone to make sacrifices without mentioning where he will be making his own sacrifice.”
@Odafejo644 wrote, “Empty speech! With the trillions, the Government has been saving from the subsidy removal, NO plans to fix any of the refineries. The aim is to squander all! When you give loans to people to run businesses and inflation is reducing buying power, how would these businesses thrive?”
However, other Nigerians who also reacted are full of praises for the president over some key issues addressed in the broadcast.
@ProgressOwoyomi tweeted, “I believe in him though and we Nigerians have to endure. This country has been damaged, for us to get back on the right track will take a long process and by God’s grace, he will lead us to a good Nigeria we want.”
“I totally trust this government and believe in the promises and policies of Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I think it’s a matter of time, our country will be fixed for the benefit of every Nigerian. So, God help this administration for our good. They are serious people.” @Adetokunboakomo opined.
@Drebelking wrote, “Never supported the idea of Tinubu as president but coming out to address the people in these trying times is commendable, unlike his predecessor. God help Naija.”
