The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has debunked and dissociated itself from a video in circulation on Social Media about a Feacal Sludge Vehicle, which it is suspected from what can be observed in the video clip had a Faulty Tank Valve in the course of its operation.
According to the Head of Public Affairs of LSWMO, Akerele Kehinde, in a statement he signed and made available to press men today, 6th of September, 2023, the video and its content do not represent an event that happened in Lagos, nor is it associated with the agency’s mode of operation.
The statement noted that the Feacal or Septage Sludge Vehicle in the video clip is not one of the trucks operating Sludge Evacuation in the State; thus, the incident in the circulating did not happen anywhere in Lagos State.
“To avoid doubt, all Feacal Sludge Vehicles operating in Lagos State are colour-coded; you are hereby urged to disregard the video and associated narrative.
The Lagos State Management office, therefore, assured Lagosians that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Agency are alive to their responsibilities to the dear Lagosians and will not rest on our oars in ensuring Lagosians get the best they deserve from the State Government and all her agencies.
The statement reads:
ENSURING SAFE MANAGEMENT OF WASTEWATER IN LAGOS
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office wishes to use this medium to clear the air on the video circulation on Social Media about a Feacal Sludge Vehicle, which it is suspected from what can be observed in the video clip had a Faulty Tank Valve in the course of its operation.
The video has been investigated thoroughly and states that the Feacal or Septage Sludge Vehicle in the video clip is not one of the trucks operating Sludge Evacuation in the State; thus, the incident in the circulating did not happen anywhere in Lagos State.
To avoid doubt, all Feacal Sludge Vehicles operating in Lagos State are colour-coded; you are hereby urged to disregard the video and associated narrative.
This is to assure you that Mr. Governor and the Agency are alive to their responsibilities to the dear Lagosians and will not rest on our oars in ensuring Lagosians get the best they deserve from the State Government and all her agencies.
Equally, the office wishes to reiterate its position on installing a BIO-DIGESTER WASTEWATER FACILITY to treat and manage wastewater generated in our houses and establishments.
BIO-DIGESTER WASTEWATER FACILITY is not an approved technology to be deployed anywhere in Lagos State; in this vein, the office is calling on all Lagosians, Individuals and Corporate Organizations to stop patronage of this technology.
The technology still needs to pass the minimum standard set by the State to safeguard the water-body pollution in line with the office’s mandate as detailed in the State Environmental Management Law of 2017 Part IX.
The office is hereby calling on all stakeholders in the building sector and sister Agencies to collaborate with the Office to ensure that our environment is safe and secure for the good of all to avoid consuming contaminated water for our Domestic and Industrial uses.
The office equally seeks the partnership of the Media Organizations, especially Radio and online media organisations operating in the State, to stop accepting adverts, promos or jingles from the promoter of BIO-DIGESTER WASTEWATER TECHNOLOGY, because the technology in its Current Status is a Threat to the Health of Lagosians. As the 4th Realm of the Estate and opinion moulder, you are hereby enjoined to join hands with the State to safeguard the health of Lagosians.
While appreciating anticipatory compliance, the Office urges Lagosians not to hesitate to report any illegal discharge of wastewater, from private houses/estates, Feacal Sludge Vehicle to the office through [email protected] or 08022022397.
Please note that ignorance of the Law is not an Excuse.
