The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday said the management of the microblogging platform, Twitter, has reached out to the Federal Government for discussion over the recent suspension order slammed on it.
Mohammed disclosed this to State House correspondents after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Minister said Twitter management was seeking “high-level discussion” to resolve the issue that led to the suspension of its activities in Nigeria.
He said the management reached out to the government on Wednesday.
The minister insisted that Twitter was suspended because it provided an avenue for those that are threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.
He said once the issue was resolved, Twitter and other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram must now be registered in Nigeria as business concerns.
