The Federal Capital Territory Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), has inaugurated a nine-independent investigative panel to probe the alleged death of a recent Abuja robbery victim, Miss Greatness Olorunfemi in Maitama District Hospital.

The Mandate Secretary of HSES, Adedolapo Fasawe while inaugurating the panel explained that the members of the panel were nominated to help bring to bear their wealth of experience through painstaking investigation and interaction to unravel what led to the death of Ms Olorunfemi.

Fasawe further noted that “We are deeply committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the health care system of Nigeria. This is part of our health sector reform in the renewed hope agenda and in the manifesto of the party APC.”

“Today’s event though a pathetic one would kick start the process which findings will go a long way in chatting the means of improving and achieving efficient health care delivery.

While speaking further, she tasked the panel to ensure transparency and accountability as she also insisted that the panellists should make sure that they are impartial and that their credibility is not questioned so as to bring closure to the victim’s family.

“We have to ensure you are impartial and your credibility is not questionable that is why you are here. Additionally, the legal framework provides clear guidelines on the panel’s scope of Authority and the procedures to be followed during investigations this would ensure that the panel operates within the confines of the law and respects the rights of all parties involved both healthcare workers and the victims and their relatives.

“We employ you to take this assignment as a worthy service to our fatherland by being thorough professional and efficient in the investigation of this incident.”

“The process of appointing and constituting this panel to investigate the death of late Miss Greatness Olorunfemi is a crucial step in ensuring transparency and accountability in our healthcare system, can not be over-emphasised as no death will go unnoticed again in our healthcare system.”

Also, one of the panellists, Professor Mohammed Aminu Muhammad, President Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), promised Nigerians that the panel will do their best to restore confidence in how things are conducted and how it affects the well-being of Nigerians.

He said, “Independent panels are inaugurated in other to notice how things are done in different aspects of public life.
