Leaders of the organised Labour moved from school to school in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday to enforce the strike called over the recent brutalization of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, in Owerri, Imo State.

Both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are involved in the strike, which has also threatened to cripple activities in public universities as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said its members would comply with the directive.

Some of the labour leaders arrived at the premises of the various schools in the morning before they were due to open for regular activities.

They insisted that the gates be shut to prevent staff and students from entering.

Unaware of the strike action, the staff students who had come waited for hours before they were later advised by school authorities to return home until there was an announcement to the contrary.

Teachers in one of the schools were heard complaining that they ought to have been told not to come to work so that they could save petrol.
