The driver of the vehicle, which crushed two street sweepers under the Lagos State Waste Management Authority while escaping from security agents in the Gbagada area of Lagos State on Monday, has surrendered himself to the police.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, told the Nigerian Tribune that the suspect reported himself at a police station later on Monday.

The police spokesperson also stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court on Wednesday after a preliminary investigation by the police.

The driver, who drove a vehicle with the reg number EPE 984 DV on Monday morning, crushed the two street cleaners around the Charlie Boy bus stop in Gbagada.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that the driver was escaping from law enforcement officers when he drove roughly and crushed the sweepers.

Hundeyin told the Nigerian Tribune, “Yes, the driver is in our custody now. I don’t want to mention where he is being detained.”

He added that “the family of the deceased persons and hoodlums may want to attack that place to mob him.”

He also stated that “he will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.”
