This was disclosed by the head of UNICEF Kano field office, Mr Rahama Farah while speaking at Media Dialogue on Vaccine Card Retention at Babale Suit, said “card retention would avoid unnecessary revaccination to a child in schools or homes”.
Mr Rahama Farah who was represented by UNICEF behavior change specialist, Mr Ogu Enemaku explained that properly keeping vaccine cards helps in easily detecting missed vaccine children.
According to him “Vaccine Card Retention made easy to determine the a child status, serve as data element for survey on immunization coverage and it helps for estimation coverage”.
He expressed concern over some parents’ poor vaccine card retention behavior in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa.
The behavior change specialist maintained that vaccine card retention is one of the major challenges bedabbling the genuine record for actual immunization surveys by government, local and international developmental agencies.
