A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, has expressed condolences to the government, people of Ondo State, and Owo local government over the death of the former governor of Ondo, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who passed away after a prolonged illness.
Akinfolarin, who represented Odigbo/Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo Federal Constituency, released a brief statement on Wednesday, stating that Akeredolu’s death has deprived the state of a fearless, courageous, and hardworking man.
“I am utterly devastated by the news of the death of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu. He was a charismatic and inspirational leader who will be fondly remembered for his fierce courage. He relentlessly spoke truth to power and remained consistent until the end. He will be sorely missed.
“He will be remembered for his role in establishing AMOTEKUN (a codename for the Yoruba security outfit). According to him, Akeredolu’s commitment to securing the southwest region from criminal herdsmen, which led to the creation of Amotekun, was a watershed moment in the history of the Yoruba and, indeed, Nigeria.
“We have lost a real warrior and a quintessential personality who served the country and Ondo State with distinction.
“My condolences to the Akeredolu family, his wife, children, and the entire people of Ondo State,” the statement read.
