People of the Isanlu-Isin community in the Isin local government area of Kwara State celebrated the third edition of the annual AJÓKOGUN cultural fiesta.

The Ajokogun cultural event, packaged to promote the traditional heritage of the agrarian community of Isanlu-Isin (the home of peace, heritage, and culture), was first established by the youth of the community and later accepted by elders, chiefs, and the king.

In his remark at the occasion, the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Dr. Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede, who is also the chairman of the council of chiefs in the Isin local government area of the state, said that the AJÓKOGUN fiesta is a mark of honour to their forefathers so that indigenes do not forget what was left behind in culture and heritage.

The monarch said that the fiesta had gained more interest among members of the community at home and abroad, adding that people from the United Kingdom and the United States of America visited their ancestral home of Isanlu-Isin in this year’s edition.

Earlier in his speech, the Asiwaju of Isin land in diaspora, Chief Joshua Olabisi Oloyede, said that he travelled down from the UK to grace the occasion to show support for the culture and tradition.

He said that he enjoyed the cultural display of IGBAA, ILOO, ISOLO, ODO ONA I, ODO ONA II, OKE AGBO, OKE ARA, and OSE ODO-AGBO, which are the eight IDOLU in Isanlu Isin.

The chairman of the organising committee of the AJÓKOGUN Fiesta 2023, Kayode Olaoye, appreciated the efforts of Isanlu Isin’s sons and daughters, home and abroad, for their contributions, while he specially commended the king, chiefs, and elders for their support.

In his New year message to the community, the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Dr Olugbenga Oloyede,
congratulated the people, urging them to work with the leadership in the town to promote sustainable development and a more fulfilling (new) year.

The monarch, who enjoined the people to promote peaceful coexistence and shun vices, commended them for always acting out the slogan, a state of harmony—a major selling point of Kwara state.

He also called on Nigerians to support the government’s reforms, including the ones embarked upon by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and President Bola Tinubu, saying the objective is to build a more resilient economy that gives everyone a better life and welfare.

Oba Oloyede wished Kwarans and Nigerians a more fulfilling New Year (2024), while he called on God to guide and protect the citizens and asked everyone to be the ideal Nigerian or global citizen they would like to see or relate to in every space.
