A former member of the House of Representatives, Linus Okorie, who represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency ihas emerged as candidate of Labour Party (LP).
Okorie won in the primary conducted from the first primary held at Amuro/Mgbom Community Primary School field, Afikpo- the headquarters of the senatorial district.
Announcing the result, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Ayo Olorufemi said Okorie got 40 votes while Nwabueze Ogo Eze had 10 votes and Fred Okereke scored 7 votes.
Okorie had in the 2023 general election contested for the same senatorial seat but lost to former Governor David Umahi, who later resigned to become the Minister of Works.
Meanwhile, a 60-year-old businessman, Mr Nwabueze Nwachukwu also emerged from the second primary which was reportedly held at an unknown location in the state.
Nwachukwu polled 50 votes out of 57 votes cast.
The returning officer , Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwibo appreciated the delegates for their peaceful conduct during the primary.
In his acceptance speech, Nwabueze said he was really prepare to represent Ebonyi South at the National Assembly if elected on Feburary 3.
Meanwhile, an Abuja-based lawyer, Silas Onu has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ebonyi South displacing Senator Amah Nnachi.
Nnachi represented the zone from 2019 to 2023 and was the candidate of the party for the 2023 general election but lost to Umahi.
The chairman of the electoral Committee, LekanRotimi made this known at the end of the primary held at the party’s Afikpo local government Secretariat on Monday.
According to Rotimi, Onu polled 143 votes out of the 144 votes cast while one vote was declared invalid.
The election was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials.
The seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Umahi as minister by President Tinubu.
In his acceptance speech, Onu commended the electoral committee for an unbiased officiating of the election.
He thanked the delegates for electing him to fly the party’s flag.
Onu called on all party members to support him to win the election even as he expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious.
Onu will contest for the seat with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Anthony Ani who emerged at the weekend from his party’s primaries.
