There are strong indications that the cold war between the loyalists of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume and the Benue State governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, may soon be over.

Indications to this emerged at the weekend after an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee of the ruling All Progressives congress (APC), held at party secretariat in the state capital, Makurdi.

The meeting also had in attendance, the chairmen of the party in all the 23 local government areas of the state and the state governor.

The party chieftains resolved at the meeting to bury the hatchet and begin on a new page that would usher in unity and progress.

To underscore their commitment to the resolutions,   the party passed a vote confidence in the governor, as well as nullified all the suspension slammed on his appointees and loyalists.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, state chairman of the APC, Austin Agada said: “Even before the governor arrived for the meeting, we unanimously passed a vote of confidence in him. We believe in his ability to deliver on his campaign promises.”

“Also, all suspension issued on members so far is hereby nullified; they should all return to status-quo.”

The governor, however, said that the meeting of the party faithful became necessary to correct certain frivolities in the social media and to pledge their loyalty to the APC.

Alia stressed the need for them to be together and on the same page in the effort to deliver the goods to the people of the state.

He said: “We are here to correct some frivolities that are going on the social media and at the end of the meeting the chairman was able to make some pronouncements over the suspension of certain persons in the party and all that.

“The primary aim is to give us a good sense of oneness, unity, and that of unity of purpose that when we come together we become more of a force; also that we have a number of projects that we are executing and I wouldn’t want any distraction from any angle at all.

“So, it is very meaningful that we all pledge our loyalty to the APC and that no one is leaving APC and that we are all one and working for the greatness of APC and we don’t want any distraction from any angle whatsoever.”
