Nigeria is a great and blessed nation with limitless resources. It is just a pity that only a few individuals and their family members who have access to the public funds are enjoying the money from these resources. Is it possible to have a corrupt free Nigeria under the leadership of Ola Olukoyede as Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)? Yes. We can have a free corrupt Nigeria if Mr Olukoyede is ready to step on toes. The Federal government of Nigeria needs to provide maximum security for the new EFCC chairman, his family members and all the operatives of the EFCC. It is a big task to fight corruption in Nigeria as we have some people who will go around to mount pressure on the EFCC chairman so as to drop fraud cases against their children. Those who have been alleged to have stolen the taxpayers’ money must be allowed to clear their name.
The international community is watching the new EFCC chairman. I want to use this medium to plead with him to launch a discreet and a thorough investigation to all the pending cases before his office before charging them to court for prosecution.
The EFCC is doing its best to fight corruption. It has succeeded in securing the conviction of many internet fraudsters. Nigerians want the EFCC to beam its searchlight on our politicians who have access to taxpayers’ money. Nigerians want Mr Olukoyede to give us a corrupt-free Nigeria. The new EFCC chairman should constitute a special committee that will be saddled with the responsibility of monitoring how our public office holders, including ministers, governors, local government chairmen, federal and state lawmakers, are spending taxpayers’ money. No one is allowed to spend public funds the way he likes.
