United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the killing of one Cameroonian peacekeeper from the UN peacekeeping mission in a bomb attack in the Central African Republic.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman to Guterres, said five peacekeepers were injured, two in serious condition in the attack in Mbindali, Ouham-Pende Prefecture.
In a statement, Dujarric said the secretary-general expressed his sincere condolences to the victim’s family and the government of Cameroon.
He said Guterres also wished the wounded a quick recovery.
“The secretary-general recalls that attacks targeting UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
“He calls on the Central African Republic authorities to spare no effort in identifying the perpetrators of this attack and bringing them to justice swiftly,” Dujarric said.
He added that the UN chief reaffirmed the solidarity of the UN with the people and government of the Central African Republic.
