Niger Police Command has confirmed the arrests of several people over their involvement in the early Monday morning protests and the blockade of Kpakungu community road in Chanchaga LGA of the State.
Confirming the arrest was the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun in a brief interview with our reporter on Monday, who added that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminals Investigations Department ( SCiD) Minna for discreet investigation by the Command.
According to him, “Early Monday morning, we given information that some protesters blocked Bida- Minna road and we mobilized our Patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer( DPO) Kpakungu Police Division. After some persuasion, but the protesters refused to open the road.
“Thereafter, the State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Comrade Yakubu Garba also arrived and approached them( the protesters) to open the road, but the protesters refused to open the road for the road users.
The PPRO added that when the protesters refused to listen to the Deputy Governor, stressing the Police decided to adopt minimum force to disperse the protesters whom he said were being violent and allegedly damaged Police patrol vehicle.
Speaking further, he said, however, normalcy was restored, the road was re-opened and there was free flow of traffic.
Wasiu Abiodun however stated further that; “The monitoring of the situation continues as our men are still on ground to monitor the situation”.
