Tragedy struck on Tuesday, around Farm Centre in Tunga community in Minna the Niger State capital at about 1300 hours, following a fatal motor vehicle and pedestrian accident involving a Tipper vehicle marked: Anambra JJT 760 ZT loaded with sands and driven by one Kabiru Shehu of Albishiri and a female pedestrian whose names were yet to be identified.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that at the time of the accident, the tipper vehicle, a Mercedes 1513, (maroon colour) driver was said to have been driving against the traffic and was coming from the City gate axis of the city towards Tunga inner area while the female victim, said to be a Mother of two children and a housemaid in one of the residential houses in the community( farm centre) was allegedly trying to cross from one side of road to the other when the driver of the tipper vehicle fully loaded with sands was said to have lost control of the vehicle, apparently as a result of break failure and the victim who was said to have covered her dress with hijab was knocked down by the vehicle.
It was further learnt that the hijab worn by the Lady who was said to be a resident of the Bosso Local Government Area of the state (the outskirts of Minna) and was a Widow was allegedly dragged on the road against the backdrops of the fact that her hijab might have been hooked by some irons underneath the Tipper vehicle when the accident occurred at the scene right in front of the AEDC’s office, Tunga, Minna
Further checks revealed that the unconscious body of the victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna for medical treatment by some good Samaritans near the scene of the accident adding that she later gave up the ghost and was confirmed dead by the Medical personnel at the hospital.
Sources close to the scene of the accident told our reporter that apart from the driver inside the Tipper vehicle, there were two other passengers inside the vehicle at the scene of the accident, adding that they all came out of the vehicle and fled the scene following the confusion that ensued among the sympathizer that had converged around the scene of the accident on the fateful Tuesday afternoon on 6th February 2024 at the Farm centre area of Tunga, Minna the state capital.
However, when our reporter called the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command , DSP Wasiu Abiodun over the unfortunate incident, he confirmed the incident, and identified the driver of the Tipper vehicle as one Bashir Shehu of Albishiri in Bosso LGA of the state, adding that the said driver was arrested and detained by the Police while the matter was under investigation at Tudun Wada Division of the State Police Command.
