The secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Mrs Ogun Funmilayo Theresa has condemned the planned construction of second flyover by the administration of Biodun Oyebanji.

The government had last week announced traffic diversion in and around Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, for the construction of the flyover between Ijigbo roundabout to Okeiyinmi area of the town.

Ogun, in a statement on Monday by her Special Assistant on Media, Dimeji Olayinka stated that it was wrong for the government to think of another flyover, “at this time most of the state roads have become death traps and practically becoming impassable.”

The former commissioner for Works and Transportation cautioned the APC administration against embarking on what she described as a misplaced priority, adding, “Embarking on such at this time would mean the current government is insensitive to the plight of the citizens.”

The statement read, “The overhead bridge built at Okesa Area of Ado Ekiti, supervised as a Commissioner under Governor Ayodele Fayose, is enough at this moment to control traffic and prevent cases of congestion in the capital city.

“The mission to spend a huge sum of N17 billion to build another flyover at this time as grossly insensitive and showed that the current government is only attached to the project under questionable circumstances.

“It will be a crime against God and humanity for any government in Ekiti State to be contemplating another flyover at this time when the economy has helped in  decongesting our roads. No reason for government to think of this.

“The question to ask is that, what is the government thinking of using the flyover to control? Because the roads are now naturally decongested because of the fuel pump price, which now stands at N670 per litre.”

However, the state commissioner for information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, argued that the construction of the flyover was decided upon by the government to ease off traffic in the area and ensure more productive hours for the citizens.

The commissioner urged the PDP chieftain to make herself abreast of the policy document of the administration, where massive infrastructural development is listed as top on its agenda towards achieving a shared prosperity for the state.

Olatunbosun revealed that the administration in the last seventeen months has embarked on massive road construction across the 16 local government areas to enhance economic growth and development.
