An uneasy calm has settled over the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state following the recent appointment of cabinet members by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Particularly, the leadership of the APC in the state strongly opposes the choice and appointment of Abduganiyu Mohammed Ajowa as one of the governor’s Special Advisers.

Additionally, a socio-political group within the APC, the Akoko Progressive Movement (APM), has accused the governor of rewarding individuals who worked against the party in the 2023 general elections.

The group in a statement, signed by its Director of Media, Seye Johnson, specifically criticized the appointments of Comrade Gani Muhammed as Special Adviser for Special Duties and Strategy, and Kayode Ajulo as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General.

The group criticised the governor for appointing Muhammed, who openly campaigned against the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in the Akoko North-West/Akoko Northeast House of Representatives election in 2023.

In a communique issued by the APC local government Chairman, Hon Kehinde Obanla and its Secretary, Comrade Bola Salami after the party statutory meeting held on Sunday, accused Muhammed of working against the party candidate, Hon Ife Ehindero during the recent Akoko North West/Akoko North East House of Representatives bye-election.

The communique read: “Gani Mohammed is regarded as an opposition figure in the APC from Akoko North West Local Government.
Muhammed is not a loyal and faithful party Member of All Progressives Congress Party (APC) in Akoko North West.

“He is not fully recognized by the majority members of APC in Akoko North West in conjunction with Local Government APC Executives and other Ward Chairmen.

“He is in anyway never contributed to the progress and for the development of APC Party in Akoko North West

“He believes so much in anti-party activities just to have his ways in politics; his usual practices in Akoko North West.

“In the last General Election, Gani Muhammed was involved so much in anti-party activities against the APC party in Akoko North West.

“Also, in the just concluded Federal House of Representative ByeElection in our Federal Constituency, he deliberately and openly worked against the APC Candidate; Hon Ifeoluwa Ehindero and committed greatly to PDP candidate to emerge.

“To this end, a copy of the suspension letter had been received from his Ward (Ajowa/Eriti/Igedegede Ward 5 as well as a Rejection letter to his appointment to show that Gani Muhammed is not a qualified loyal party Member for the job.”
