National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission (N- HYPPADEC) has pledged to provide solar streetlights and a borehole for Bina community in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
The commission’s Director of Operations, Iliyasu Abdullahi Wara, made the promise in an interview with newsmen, after listening to complaints from the community’s representatives, saying that illumination of the community with solar energy will provide security for residents, especially at night.
Wara, who spoke on behalf of the N- HYPPADEC Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, further revealed that the borehole is an intervention to provide a potable water to the people of the community.
According to him, Bina community will be captured by the commission to benefit from intervention of solar streetlights and a borehole, as part of their mandate to provide succour to the commission’s host communities this year.
In his remarks, the Dagacin Bina community, Alhaji Mohammed Umar Bina, applauded the management of N-HYPPADEC for the gesture to ameliorate the suffering of the people who lack such basic amenities of life over the years, just as he thanked the commission for the intervention.
It will be recalled that Bina community had been suffering from acute shortage of clean water for drink and for domestic use over the years since the breakdown of the two boreholes, a reason the residents had continued to depend on well water or brooks for their livelihood.
