A farm manager, Tunde Osifowokan, kidnapped on a poultry farm at the Idowa area of Ogun State, last Monday, has been rescued by operatives of the State Police Command, while five of his abductors were killed in a gun duel.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamatu, explained that the Police had been on the trail of the hoodlums since the matter was reported.
Alamutu said “At about 4 am on Thursday morning, our anti-kidnapping unit stormed the kidnappers’ hideout at Odogbolu forest along Sagamu-Benin expressway.
“The kidnappers engaged the squad in a fierce gun battle during which five of them, out of about eight were neutralised while the rest escaped with bullet wounds.
“Exhibits recovered from the dead among the kidnappers are cash sum of N1,185, 070 suspected to be part of the ransom the kidnappers had collected.
“Other exhibits are one sword, cellphones, substances suspected to be hard drugs, charms, empty shells of AK47 rifle and sticks.”
Alamutu also said that the victim, Tunde Osifowokan was rescued unhurt.
The Police boss said the remains of the kidnappers have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, adding that efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
Alamatu warned criminals who are hell-bent on terrorising the state to relocate, saying the Command would make their stay uncomfortable.
